Quebec car insurance pricing report (2026)
How much does car insurance cost in Quebec? This report analyzes YouSet’s proprietary quote data to reveal median monthly premiums.
How much does car insurance cost in Quebec?
The median cost of car insurance in Québec is $114 per month, making it one of the most affordable provinces in Canada. That said, the range is between $30 and $283 a month. Where you fall within that range depends on five key factors: your location, your driver profile, your vehicle, your coverage level, and your chosen deductible.
Québec’s relatively low premiums are partly structural: the province operates a public auto insurance system (SAAQ) that covers bodily injury claims, leaving private insurers to cover only property damage and civil liability. This significantly reduces the risk pool compared to fully private provinces like Ontario.

Is car insurance getting more expensive in Quebec?
Car insurance premiums in Québec have been rising for the past several years, but it’s not a trend unique to the province. Drivers across Canada are seeing car insurance become more expensive largely due to higher repair costs, more complex vehicle technology, and more frequent and severe weather-related claims.
However, the size of those increases can vary significantly depending on where you shop. YouSet customers saw year-over-year increases of just 1%, compared to 8% across the broader market.
This difference can be attributed to YouSet’s model as a marketplace and broker. Its proprietary technology compares real-time quotes from 20+ insurers, automatically applies all eligible discounts, including broker-exclusive rates, and identifies the best-priced offer available. Access to a broader range of pricing options alone can be enough to reduce year-over-year price increases.
On top of that, YouSet’s AMF-licensed brokers can also provide additional support by identifying opportunities to reduce premiums when more competitive options or savings opportunities are available.

What factors affect auto insurance rates in Quebec?
Car insurance rates aren’t arbitrary. They’re based on hundreds of variables that insurers use to estimate the level of risk you pose to them as a customer. While every insurance company has its own pricing model, the factors that have the biggest impact on what you’ll pay are your location, vehicle, driver profile, insurance history, coverage choices, and deductibles.
Other factors, such as your discounts and the insurer’s proprietary underwriting model, can also influence your premium, but these five have the greatest impact for most drivers.

Methodology
This report is based on real, anonymized quote data collected through YouSet’s platform for drivers in Quebec, not survey responses or hypothetical rate filings. Every figure reflects an actual quote generated for a real applicant shopping for car insurance through YouSet.
Time period
Most tables in this report are based on 44,598 applications generated between June 18, 2025 and June 18, 2026, a trailing 12-month window, refreshed annually. The “By Year” table is the one exception: it draws on YouSet’s full dataset from January 1, 2022 onward — 154,649 applications that generated 589,138 quotes, since each application is shopped across multiple carriers.
Geographic scope
All data is limited to applicants located in the province of Quebec. Qualifying criteria: only quotes from applicants in good standing are included, meaning the applicant met YouSet’s minimum eligibility thresholds to qualify for a quote in the first place. Where an applicant shopped multiple insurers, only the one quote YouSet identifies as the best match for that applicant is counted, so no single applicant is represented more than once in a given table.
Reading the numbers
Rather than a single average, each figure is reported as a range: the 10th percentile (“Low”), the median (“Median”), and the 90th percentile (“High”). The median is the true middle value of all quotes in that group — half of quotes were cheaper, half were more expensive — and it isn’t distorted by a handful of unusually high or low outliers the way a plain average can be. The 10th and 90th percentiles show a realistic low and high end: 10% of quotes in that group were cheaper than the “Low” figure, and 10% were more expensive than the “High” figure, so the middle 80% of real quotes fall inside that range.
Review process
YouSet regularly updates this report to reflect changing market conditions and new data as it becomes available. Each update follows the same review process to help ensure the information remains accurate, reliable, and useful for Canadians shopping for insurance.
